On Sunday, June 5, 2016, Deshauna Barber, a 26 years old Miss District of Columbia, was named Miss USA 2016. Now she is better known as the accomplished woman represented the USA at the Miss Universe Pageant in Manila, Philippines on January 29th, 2017.

D.C.’s Deshauna Barber wins 2016 Miss USA 2016
Deshauna is the first woman actively serving in the United States Army Reserve to win the coveted Miss USA title. Deshauna is and was born in Columbus, Georgia. The daughter of an Army Master Sergeant who served in the United States Special Forces who is now retired, she went through the typical military childhood, relocating numerous times — North Carolina, Nebraska, Minnesota, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
She went on the graduate from Virginia State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She then completed her Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems at the University of Maryland.
After graduating, Deshauna moved back to Washington, D.C. where she was hired as an IT Analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
In 2011, Deshauna commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve where she currently serves as a Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit in Rockville, Maryland. Passionate about serving the men and women in the U.S. military, our Miss USA will specifically focus her efforts on PTSD treatment for soldiers returning from deployments and suicide prevention in the Armed Forces.
