Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Elizabeth Fechtel celebrated Memorial Day Washington, D.C. style. During her weekend trip, Elizabeth had the opportunity to perform in the annual Memorial Day Parade, welcome home members of the military, and visit the Pentagon.
During the Memorial Day Parade, Elizabeth performed a dance routine to “God Bless America” sung by Miss America Laura Kaeppeler. After the parade, Elizabeth helped welcome home members of the military and spent time talking with the troops and their families.
Elizabeth and Laura were also invited to a special tour of the Pentagon provided by Miss America 1985, Sharlene Wells Hawkes. While on the tour, Elizabeth and Laura were treated to VIP treatment that culminated with an exclusive meeting with Admiral James Winnefield, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“The whole trip was one big reminder of what a blessing our veterans and those currently serving are to our nation,” said Elizabeth of her visit to D.C.
