The new Miss America 2016, Betty Cantrell, Miss Georgia, is quite the talented miss. An honors graduate of Mercer University, she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. It is little surprise then that the Georgia peach walked off with the preliminary talent award and the coveted crown.
During the talent competitions earlier in the week and the televised finals, Cantrell performed an operatic vocal “Tu Tu Piccolo Iddio” from “Madame Butterfly”. As the Preliminary Talent Award winner for the third night of preliminary competitions, her superb performance earned her a $2,000 scholarship. Her repeat of that dazzling talent during the Sunday night televised finals helped her win the national crown and a $50,000 scholarship.
