A New Miss Global International Malaysia is Crowned
Nutritionist Sheela Khaw Chwee Yin, from Kuala Lumpur, was crowned Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM) 2011 here last Saturday at Eastwood Grand Ballroom, Miri Sarawak.
The Australian graduate thus earned the chance to represent Malaysia at the world-level pageant come Sept 24 at the Grand Palladium Resort & Spa, Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Khaw, 23, went home RM5,000 richer and with a return air ticket to Montego Bay (worth RM10,000), sash, trophy and hampers from Imperial Beauty in tow.
Miss Malaysia Global International 2010/2011 and also organising chairperson of the pageant Marlene Lim crowned Khaw while Assistant Minister for Tourism Mong Dagang gave away the prizes.
Khaw also won the Miss Charity Queen Infinity, a subsidiary title, and was rewarded with a sash and trophy.
The first runner-up is Merveen Tan, a 19-year-old American Degree Programme student from Penang, who also won the subsidiary title of Miss Photogenic. Tan received RM2,000, sash, trophy and hampers.
The second runner-up is Esther Tan, a 24-year-old businesswoman from Kuala Lumpur who not only walked away with RM1,000 cash but two subsidiary titles. Her impressive pole dancing routine earned her Miss Best in Talent and Miss Modello Supermodel.
Genevie Wan Anyie, 23, and Yvonne Supang Lakas, 22, both from Miri were among the winners of seven other subsidiary titles.
Genevie, an engineering student from Curtin Sarawak won the Miss Bintang Megamall, and Miss Eastwood Popularity titles, while Yvonne, a tourism graduate, took the Miss Imperial Beauty title.
The other subsidiary title winners were Reina Lim from Selangor (Miss Beautiful Body Balcony and Miss Facebook Favourite), Amelia Liew from Kuala Lumpur (Miss Congeniality), and Angelica Yap (Miss Crowning Glory New Dewie).
Another highlight of the glittering evening were enchanting performances by three celebrity performers — Vanessa Sew How, Ellisan Tan and Misa Luvi.
Cay Kuijpers, Natacha Meunier, Gemma Louise Taylor, Luke Crowley and Raj Aria are among the celebrities judges who attended the grand event while Jackson Goh and Marlene Lim represented National Cancer Society of Malaysia (Sarawak) and MerveilleuxM Production respectively.
The pageant aimed to raise fund for Palliative Care Association Miri, Sunflower Centre and National Cancer Society of Malaysia (Sarawak) and the charity event managed to raise enough fund to purchase a Nissan Urvan van for the Sunflower Centre.
