Young Men of Ireland Invited to Become Escorts at the 2012 Rose of Tralee Pageant
DÁITHÍ Ó Sé has challenged the young men of Ireland to come forward and prove if they are man enough to be an Escort at the 2012 Rose of Tralee International Festival.
This year a €5000 prize awaits one lucky man who is deemed to be worthy of the title “Escort of the Year”. Dáithí says there’s more to it than just carrying handbags and lipstick for the Roses: “It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it! A Rose Escort needs to wear a creaseless tux like you were born into it, but to be a great Escort you need to have the Bond swagger, the diplomatic touch – and critically at this event, an understanding of the timeless tradition that has stood the Rose of Tralee festival.”
He has already shown his credentials to be a worthy Rose Escort and this will be confirmed in July when he marries the beautiful Rita Talty, who was the New Jersey Rose from 2008.
But unlike the Escorts, Dáithí won’t have to go through the rigours of the now famous Boot Camp which will take place in Kerry on May 18th and 19th.
“The Boot Camp is a positive and essential part of the Escort preparation process. It puts the lads under some pressure and also teaches them team work and some discipline, all of which are qualities that are very much needed for Festival Week,” he said Joining Dáithí Ó Sé at today’s start of the search for 31 Escorts were the 2011 Dublin Rose Siobhéal Nic Eochaidh, Dubai Rose Gráinne Boyle & Derry Rose Catherine Feeney.

The deadline for receipt of application forms and the non-refundable €25 entry fee is Friday 13th April.
Every year, considerable time is taken to select and induct the gentlemen in the duties and requirements of the Escorts and this year’s selection process will take place at the end of April. Escorts must be between 21 & 30 years of age before the 1st September and once selected, each prospective Escort must secure sponsorship of €1250.
