Miss World 2010 is Miss United States, Alexandria Mills

     

Alexandria Mills, Miss United States, age 18 of Kentucky, has been crowned the 60th Miss World during a stunning production in the Beauty Crown Theatre in Sanya, China, beating 115 beautiful candidates from around the world. Miss Botswana, Emma Wareus, placed as the first runner up and Miss Venezuela, Adriana Vasina, was named second runner up. Miss Ireland, Emma Waldron, and Miss China PR, Tang Xiao, rounded out the remaining top five. During her final moments as Miss World 2009, Kaiane Aldorino, removed the famous Miss World crown and placed it on the head of her successor.

Miss World 2010 - Alexandria Mills According to the Miss World Organization, Alexandria reacted with stunned disbelief, “It’s a cliché but this really is a dream come true,’ she said. “I can’t believe it’s happening to me. My time has come. I’m loving it!”

The two-hour live television event launched the 60th anniversary of the Miss World 2010 Pageant and focused world-wide attention on  the beauty and talent of 115 of the World’s most remarkable young women.

Seven previous Miss World titleholders served as judges during the live televised finals: Denise Perrier Lanfranchi, Miss World 1953 (France); Ann Sidney, Miss World 1964 (United Kingdom); Mary Stävin, Miss World 1977 (Sweden); Agbani Darego, Miss World 2001 (Nigeria); Maria Julia Mantilla, Miss World 2004 (Peru); Zhang Xi Lin, Miss World 2007 (China); Ksenia Sukhinova, Miss World 2008 (Russia).

Angela Chow, one of China’s most recognized television announcers, and one who is quite familiar with the prestige of the Miss World Organization, served as the announcer for the globally televised event.

The 116 contestants have spent one month touring China, including appearances in Shanghai and Beijing at the Beijing’s Olympic Stadium and the Shanghai EXPO, as well as several famous ancient sites such as the Great Wall of China and Genghis Khan’s mausoleum in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. This is the fifth year that China has hosted the Miss World Pageant; the other years being 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007.
