When it comes to bad pageant answers, Miss Utah USA, Marissa Powell, delivered what many consider to be the worst pageant answer ever … surpassed only by the infamous answer by Miss South Carolina Teen USA at the 2007 Miss Teen USA Pageant.
At the 2013 Miss USA Pageant, during the all-important final questions asked of the top 6 finalists, judge NeNe Leakes, star of the Bravo reality series The Real Housewives of Atlanta, asked Powell:
“A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners – yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about our society?”
Miss Utah replied:
“I think we can re…relate this back to education… and how we are…continuing to try to strive to…. figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem in… I think. Especially the men… are… um… seen as the leaders of this. And so we need to try to figure out how to… create education better so that we can solve this problem.”
What’s especially sad about this incident is that Miss Utah – with those gorgeous blue bedroom eyes, seductive smile, see-through evening gown, unbeatable body, and Rapunzel hair – had a real shot at winning the Miss USA title until her “let’s try to beat Miss South Carolina Teen USA” moment. Very sad, because we love her! Don’t get us wrong, the new Miss USA, Erin Brady is a knock-out who will be a very successful Miss USA, but it would have been a better prize fight had we seen Miss Utah really nail that answer.
It goes to show that the crown isn’t anyone’s sealed deal… until that final question is conquered. If you are a contestant, be sure to read our tips for great pageant interviews.
