Miss Universe 2017 is Miss France, Iris Mittenaere!
The gorgeous newly-crowned Miss Universe, Iris Mittenaere, competed as Miss Universe France. The last time that France won the title was in 1953 when Christiane Martel was crowned Miss Universe 1953. Mittenaere, 24, is a dental student who loves French cooking as a hobby. The first runner-up was 25-year old Miss Universe Haiti, Raquel Pelissier, a survivor of the horrific Haitian earthquake that killed 300,000 people. Second runner-up was Miss Universe Columbia, 23-year old Andrea Tovar.
During the final question segment, Iris commented with grace and charm, “If tonight I’m not one of the winners, I will still have the great honor of being one of the three finalists.” Thank you.”
When it came to the always popular swimsuit competition, Mittenaere’s appearance placed her firmly in the rare category of “legendary”, along with Miss Universe 2002, Oxana Fedorova, whose figure was deemed “unbeatable”, which clearly was the case with Miss France. Moments before Iris stepped on-stage during the preliminary swimsuit competition, an obviously keen-eyed photographer snapped the photo.
During the preliminary evening gown competition, she wowed in a yellow-gold beaded lace gown. She was an absolute stand-out from the moment she stepped on-stage in her Parisienne dance girl national costume. During the final questions segment with host Steve Harvey, when asked about France’s open immigration policy, ” When you fail, you have to be elevated, you have to try again and keep going. If tonight, I’m not one of the winners, I will still have the great of honor of being one of the three finalists.”
