The new Miss Universe® 2010 is Jimena Navarrete, Miss Mexico Universe, a 22 year old student from from Guadalajara, Mexico. Navarrete beat our 82 contestants from around the world to win the crown during a live NBC broadcast from the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gliding across the stage in an elegant red chiffon gown, a color chosen to celebrate her country’s 2010 dual anniversaries (200th anniversary of Mexican Independence and 100th anniversary of Mexican Revolution), Navarrete was an immediate stand-out.
The first runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, 24, a crowd favorite. Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell, 19 was second runner-up. Miss Ukraine, Anna Poslavska, age 23 was third runner-up. Miss Philippines, Venus Raj, age 22 was the fourth runner-up.
