January 3, 2012 — La Mesa, California — Pageant organizers are currently seeking outgoing women ages 13-26 to participate in the 2012 Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee Pageants, programs that have been a tradition in La Mesa and Santee since the late 1960’s and is an outstanding mentoring program for young women.
The pageants are sponsored by Grossmont Center, the local Chamber of Commerce and focus on community service. There is no swimsuit competition. The pageants are set for Friday, March 2, 2012, and orientation for the pageant begins Feb. 6.
“We are looking for young women who wanted an opportunity to be leaders in their community. The busiest girls make the best titleholders so girls who are involved in all sorts of activities are perfect. We love seeing a diverse group of ladies with all sorts of backgrounds,” says Pageant Director Alexandra Kuty.
Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee 2012 will each receive a $1,000 scholarship while Miss La Mesa Teen and Miss Santee Teen 2012 will each receive a $500 scholarship. The scholarship money was fundraised in August in the successful “Fashion Rocks the East” fashion show, which was held at the La Mesa Community Center.
There will also be $1,000 dedicated for essay awards winners thanks to donations from Mary England and Sportsplex USA. “It’s important to recognize the contestants in several areas including essay writing to show are commitment to education and being well-rounded women,” says Kuty.
The contestants will be scored on personal interview, speech, poise and personality, sportswear, evening gown and an on stage question. Pageant photographers will present the Miss Photogenic award, contestant will vote for the Miss Congeniality award and there will also be an essay writing contest.
Winners will receive the once in a lifetime opportunity to serve as their cities official hostess and spend the year attending grand openings, parades, summer concerts and chamber functions.
