Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan, will be the guest speaker at the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Seminar
The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Leadership Seminar with guest speaker, 2011 Miss America Teresa Scanlan.
The event will be Friday, March 8, 2013 and will start at 8 a.m. at the Athens City Middle School Auditorium.

When Teresa Scanlan was crowned Miss America 2011, she became the youngest woman to wear the crown in over 70 years and the very first Miss Nebraska to become Miss America.
As Miss America, Teresa worked to promote the Miss America organization and the scholarships it provides, the nation platform of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and her personal platform on eating disorders, as well as being an advocate for agriculture and working with The Hand That Feeds U.S.
Additionally, she spent time as a spokesperson and advocate for many other organizations an causes including:
- The Heart Association
- American Cancer Society
- Youth Service America
- National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associate Disorders
- Taste of the NFL
- Keep America Beautiful
- Produce for Kids
- Special Olympics
Currently, Teresa is a student at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Virginia where she is majoring in government. Her post college plans include Harvard Law School in preparation to become a criminal prosecutor. Hoping to become a judge and eventually be involved in the political arena, her highest goals are to be on the Presidential ticket in 2028 or to become a Supreme Court Judge.
