In April 2011, 17-year-old Krystal Purvis of East Texas, Daughter of Jennifer Cross, was Crowned “Worlds Miss Gulf Coast Tourism 2011”. She will go on to the “World’s Miss Tourism” Pageant in November to Compete for Prizes and Scholarships with girls from all over the world. This years prize package is up to $50,000.00 in value.
Krystal along with her Fellow Tourism Sisters have adopted the “Stand UP to BULLYING” Platform, In an effort to stop the rising trends in bullying and Teen suicides. Krystal like so many others has been a Victim of Bullying herself and in fact chose to leave the public school system after administration officials continued to employ a Teacher who had been one of the sources of her bullying. She has gone on to rise above that ordeal by finishing school a year early thru a Private home schooling program.
Krystal hopes to somehow turn this negative experience into a positive by talking to younger children about how their words and actions affect others. She is also determined to work with her local crisis center in starting to bring to light another important Issue in schools today, “Teen Dating Violence”. Krystal says while she probably won’t continue competing past this year, she intends to make her mark and her voice heard in that this type of treatment of others must be stopped! Too many young people have died for needless cruel reasons and it’s time to work together to find a way to stop the Violence.
