On Stage Pageant Questions
It’s anybody’s crown until the final question clinches the title for one lucky girl.
As former Miss Universe and pageant co-anchor Margaret Gardener put it as she watched several Miss Universe finalists waiting to answer the top five final question, “They may look calm, cool and collected, but they are in absolute turmoil. They realize that this reply can change their futures. It is the very best—and worst—moment of their entire life.”
The Final Question
The final question, ultimately, is a test of composure that distinguishes the young woman who is most qualified to serve as the titleholder. The contestant demonstrating the most confidence and ability to express herself under pressure simply comes across to judges as the woman who would best fulfill the job.
The crown rests on your being poised and professional under pressure. Maintaining composure during the enormous pressures of answering a final question with as many as 600 million viewers watching reveals that a young lady has the confidence to fulfill the responsibilities of the crown.
How to Answer On-Stage Questions in a Pageant
During the 1992 Miss America Pageant, when Regis Philbin asked each of the top five a final question about her platform, Miss Florida, Leanza Cornett, discussed her AIDS prevention and education platform with such conviction and sincerity that the judges awarded her the national title.
Soon after Cornett’s victory, a British pageant fan remarked that Leanza’s final answer had so moved him that when she was crowned, he stood in the privacy of his home and saluted her. Now that’s communicating to win.
The onstage questions are so important that fabulous answers have yanked several finalists with previously mediocre standings to the throne…
- Arkansas’ Teri Utley slipped into the top twelve in eleventh place, went into the final question in third place, and performed well enough to earn the 1982 Miss USA crown.
- During the 1992 Miss Universe Pageant, Miss Namibia, who was fourth in the finals, performed so superbly during the final question that she clinched the crown.
The final question is a test of each finalists’ total suitability for the title. Judges are adding the final touches to their judging by asking themselves: Which woman overall is most qualified to wear the crown?
It is a young woman’s best — and last — opportunity to clinch the crown.
Giving an outstanding answer during a top five question can absolutely seal the crown for you!
