Newly Appointed Queen Will Use Crown To Tackle Climate Change and Sustainability Issues
Washington, D.C. — On May 19, 2013, The Doubletree by Hilton hosted “DC Exquisite A Crowning Affair” with Mrs. Maryland International 2010 Angel McCoy and Miss Exquisite International 2012 Amina Lillie Gilyard serving as the pageant Co-directors. This event featured live entertainment, a silent auction to benefit We Will Survive Cancer, and the crowning of our fabulous Queens.
Miss Kirin Kennedy was the 2008 – 2010 Pennsylvania State Youth and College President of the NAACP, and a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls and Pennsylvania State University.On Sunday, Miss Kennedy was crowned Miss Mid-Atlantic Exquisite 2013.
“I am so excited and humbled by this opportunity and platform to increase awareness about environmental justice issues and climate change, says Kennedy. By partnering with the Environmental Justice and Climate Change Initiative, I will spread awareness of sustainable practices and the effect of climate change on urban communities.”
Miss Kennedy will represent the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States at the August 2013 National Pageant in Baltimore, Maryland. Miss Kennedy has spearheaded many initiatives and worked on sustainability practices in local communities and with college students to educate communities on the negative effects of climate change.
