Dena will mix it up with her outrageous humor for 3 nights, plus special guest appearance in the Sunday, September 15 ABC telecast
The Miss America Organization is pleased to announce that South Jersey native and former Miss New Jersey Dena Blizzard will host the preliminary competitions of the 2014 Miss America Competition when it makes the long-awaited return to Atlantic City this September. Dena, who cinched the state title in 1995, will host the preliminary competitions once again on September 10, September 11 and September 12 at Boardwalk Hall and will make a special appearance during the telecast on Sunday night live on ABC!
Dena will once again delight audiences with her outrageously funny comedy as Mistress of Ceremonies for the three nights of preliminary judging. During the 2013 preliminaries, Blizzard created moments to remember with her hilarious impression of singer PSY’s “Gangam Style” dance and gymnast McKayla Maroney’s “Not Impressed” face.
In between segments where the contestants will compete in categories for Lifestyle & Fitness in Swimsuit, Talent, Interview and On-Stage question, Dena will keep the audience entertained with her signature comedy routine, which often includes her riotous insight on marriage, children, and life in South Jersey. Her “Jersey girl” jokes take on a special meaning this year, as the competition returns to Atlantic City for the first time in eight years.
The comedian and talk show host has worked in stand-up comedy for more than a decade. After completing her term as Miss New Jersey 1995, Dena toured in comedy clubs throughout the country and created her popular, one-woman show “One Funny Mother: I’m Not Crazy.” She has co-hosted PBS’ “Real Simple TV” and served as the audience warm-up comedian for Emeril Lagasse’s “Emeril Live” and Paula Deen’s “Paula’s Party” on the Food Network.
Dena has also served as an on-air correspondent and audience warm-up for syndicated programs, including “The Nate Berkus Show” and “Anderson Live.”
“It was such an honor to host Miss America’s preliminary competition last year,” stated Dena. “There is no other way to say it, I was simply thrilled to have the privilege of returning as host of the prelims for Miss America’s historic return to Atlantic Cty and my home state of New Jersey. I cannot wait to entertain the hometown crowd.”
The preliminary competitions are from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. each night. The diverse panel of preliminary competition judges includes Shirley Cothran Barret, Richard Dyer, Stephanie George, Oscar James, Karl Jurman, Cori Wellins Lagao, and Nina Whitaker LaFontaine. In the past, Dena has entertained the Miss America Judges that have included Kardashian mom, Kris Jenner and Rush Limbaugh.
