C’est la vie! One of the unexpected things you can expect during an on-stage pageant interview is being asked to dabble in a foreign language.
This is especially true for any contestant who has listed a foreign language on her contestant bio.
For example, Barbara Peterson, Miss Minnesota USA, who was asked to speak in Swedish – a common language in her state – so impressed the judges that they awarded her the Miss USA crown.
If you’ve listed a foreign language on your entry form, be prepared to speak in that language and don’t hesitate to use the opportunity to speak that language during any on-stage interview.
If you are competing in a foreign country, learn a bit of the host country’s language and greet the audience in their native tongue and thank them for their hospitality. This is always an audience favorite and shows the judges you know how to connect with different cultures.
