MAHAFFEY THEATER HOSTS MISS FLORIDA PAGEANT
The Cirque du Crown Comes to Town July 6-13, 2013
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (June 11, 2013) – For the ninth consecutive year, the City of St. Petersburg will host the Miss Florida Pageant when 47 contestants arrive July 6 to begin a week of competition and appearances. The pageant concludes with the crowning of Miss Florida 2013 on Saturday, July 13, at The Mahaffey Theater.
The pageant is a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant. Tickets, which start at $40 for one night of preliminaries, and are $85 for the finals night of competition go on sale Thursday, June 13 at noon.
More than $50,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded to this year’s Class of 2013. The week will kick off with the contestants attending the July 6 Tampa Bay Rays’ game vs. the Chicago White Sox and the first pitch tossed by Laura McKeeman, Miss Florida 2012.
Also taking place that week is Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen contest. Thirty-seven young women vying for the 2013 title will arrive in St. Petersburg on July 10. The winner will continue and compete for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in August.
Mary Sullivan, executive director of the Miss Florida Pageant, said the titleholders for both competitions will be accompanied by 120 Sunshine Princesses and Princes, children who are selected by a contestant and mentored during her year of service.
“We are very thrilled to return to St. Petersburg for a great week of pageantry,” Ms. Sullivan said. “The City of St. Petersburg has embraced our organization. The City is the perfect complement to the 2013 pageant theme, Cirque du Crown or Circus of the Crown. Our first class venue combined with the area’s many attractions will delight the families, directors, volunteers and friends who will be in town supporting their favorite contestants, one who will become Miss Florida 2013 and, quite possibly, Miss America 2014.”
There are three nights of preliminary competition for the Miss Florida Pageant at The Mahaffey Theater Tuesday-Thursday, July 9-11. Pageant finals are Saturday, July 13 and start at 3:30 p.m. with Miss Florida Outstanding Teen at 4 p.m. and Miss Florida at 7:30 p.m.
