Miss America 2009 Katie Stam addresses the American National Legion ConventionMiss America 2009 Katie Stam was on hand at the American Legion National Convention in Louisville, KY this week to support their community service initiatives and talk about her own volunteering experiences. On Sunday, Katie spoke to the Sons of the American Legion about the importance of community service and rode in the National Convention Parade in Downtown Louisville.
The next day she spoke to the America Legion Auxiliary and commended them for initiating their new service project, Call to Service Corps, which is designed to enhance the capacity of Auxiliary to generate volunteer service targeted toward poverty alleviation by and for military veteran families.
On her final day in Louisville, Katie had the wonderful opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the National Convention Opening Ceremonies. Later that evening she had the honor of attending the National Commander's Head Table Reception and Banquet. Miss America 2009 Katie Stam will speak at Mobile County high school leadership eventSEMMES, Ala. -- The Do Something! leadership event at Mary G. Montgomery High School will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 14. Keynote speaker for the conference will be Katie Stam, Miss America 2009, who is the National Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network and the official spokesperson for Zerosmoke. Stam's personal platform is "Passion for Service: Promoting Community Service and Involvement." Also on the program will be Leshay Brannan, a 1998 graduate of MGM who is associate director of Baptist Campus Ministries at Florida State University. The one-day event for high school students who are ready to "do something" is open to those in leadership classes, student government groups, service organizations and any other students who want to make a positive impact in their community. Miss America 2009, Miss Tennessee visit Children's HospitalKatie Stam, Miss America 2009 , and Stefanie Wittler, Miss Tennessee 2009, visited with patients and familiesat the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt on Thursday, Aug. 27. They each performed one song and played with the children. Stam, from Seymour, Ind., won the Miss America pageant in January. She is the National Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals nationwide, including Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and four others in the state. Wittler was crowned Miss Tennessee 2009 on June 20. She is a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, majoring in communications. The week was a memorable one for the Miss America Organization and the MAO family that was in Orlando to support MAOT. Miss America 2009 Katie Stam was proud to be a part of the week's festivities that included being the on-stage host for the pageant, as well as supporting the Teen contestants, and offering her love and support for our wonderful sister program.
The events were filled with magical moments including Miss America who was also able to meet with the Teen's little princesses for a special luncheon.On Saturday, the excitement continued with the crowning of our new Miss America's Outstanding Teen and the event created new memories for all. We thank all of our Miss America family for helping to make this week such an incredible success!
We look forward to the journey ahead with our 53 Miss America contestants who will now prepare for Miss America 2010 Pageant on January 30, broadcasted live on TLC from Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas!
The Miss America 2010 Contestants gathered for the first time in Orlando to get to know one another and have a wonderful day that included photos opportunities at Sea World and an incredible visit to Universal Studios on Wednesday. The contestants were also able to enjoy a wonderful dinner at Maggiano's, hosted by Florida State Executive Director Mary Sullivan and co-hosted by David Lang and Carry O'Neal of Regalia Magnificent Apparel on Thursday night.
And on Friday, the contestants along with the Miss America Organization Board of Directors and Miss America enjoyed the Miss America Fundraiser hosted for the second year by Mr. and Mrs. Siegel.

Miss America cheers up children in hospital visitTiming is everything, and 11-year-old Jay Harrington learned that lesson early in life. The Pine Hill boy just happened to be in the Virtua Voorhees Hospital when Miss America Katie Stam paid a visit on Thursday morning. He injured his knee in a fall and had been admitted to the pediatric department two days earlier. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said his mother, Janice Harrington. Art McMaster, President and CEO of the Miss America Organization, and Miss America 2009 Katie Stam were welcomed to Puerto Rico today by Joselo Sostre, Executive State Director of the Miss Puerto Rico Scholarship Program, along with his newly appointed staff at a press conference in San Juan. They were greeted by media outlets that included magazines, newspapers and television outlets who covered The Miss America Press Conference.

Prior to the press conference, Miss America 2009 Katie Stam and Art were invited to meet with Puerto Rico's Secretary of State, who presented them with a Proclamation. Immediately following the press conference, the members of the Miss America Organization and Joselo's team were invited to tour the Governor's mansion. This guided tour included meeting with the First lady of Puerto Rico, Luce Vela who was thrilled to have Miss America visit one of the world's most historic sites, Fortaleza!

Miss America 2009 Katie Stam Helps Deserving Military FamiliesAs a part of her passion for community service, Miss America 2009 Katie Stam is helping to grant wishes for military families through a special program called, HEROES AT HOME. Heroes at Home is a joint effort between Sears Holdings and Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading non-profit working to preserve affordable home ownership by providing free home rehabilitation. The mission of Heroes at Home is to ensure that military families are living in safe, warm and comfortable homes – a dream come true for many veterans, and especially important during this troubled economy and housing crisis. In celebration of Memorial Day this weekend, Katie will be promoting Heroes at Home during a special satellite media tour today, May 20. She will be speaking to media outlets across the country about Sears' and Heroes at Home's mission, and reinforcing her commitment to promoting community service and involvement.
