Terri Utley, Miss Arkansas USA, won the 1982 Miss USA Pageant in Biloxi, Mississippi, where she was crowned by Kim Seelbrede, Miss USA 1981 of Ohio.
Terri Utley react to news she has won the Miss USA 1982 crown!
Utley was considered to be a dark horse winner for several reasons. First, she narrowly missed even making the top 10, sneaking into the finals with scores that placed her in ninth place. Yet she proved so relaxed, charming and unaffected during the live telecast that she emerged from the crowd to win the crown.
During the on-stage conversations, co-host Bob Barker asked her, "So what do you do in Cabot, Arkansas, on a Saturday night?” In an answer so utterly unscripted that it has become a bit of pageant lore, Utley replied, "In the summer, we cruise up and down Main Street. Then we go to the Tastee Freeze, sit on the back of my friend’s pickup truck, he plays the banjo and the guys drink a little beer and dip a little Skoal. It’s a real good time.” We bet!

As if the amusing answer wasn't enough to set her apart, the brown eyed, brunette beauty was one of the rare women with very short hair ever to win the Miss USA title, and one of the few Miss Arkansas USA winners ever to win.
In keeping with her "I did it my way" theme, she dressed in true individualistic fashion in the evening gown competition, where she competed in an unusual light brown chiffon, calf-length formal dress with billowing sheer sleeves. If one were to accept traditional pageant logic, her pageant gown was the wrong color, wrong hem length, with the wrong sleeves. But beautiful on Terri...and the judges obviously loved the young lady who simply dared to be herself!
She competed as Miss USA at 1982 Miss Universe Pageant in Peru, being named the 4th runner-up to miss Universe 1982, Karen Baldwin, Miss Canada.
At the conclusion of her reign she crowned her success, Julie Hayek, Miss California USA, as Miss USA 1983.

Utley then moved to Los Angeles, California where she entered the television industry. She worked as a spokesperson for Mazda, a television news producer, and the anchor for "Movietime" (now the “E!” channel) for which she conducted celebrity interviews and covered prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Awards.
Terri has experienced both the mountain tops of success as a pageant titleholder and television personality ... and the sorrows of life's valleys. Terri was happily married to Steve Amos, with whom she had three daughters, when he passed away in 2007. She eventually remarried Charlie Britt, with whom she has a daughter. Utley honors the two special men whom she has shared matrimony, now going by the name Terri Amos-Britt.
Inspired by a revelation she experienced as a young mother dealing with unexpected anger issues, Terri studied energetic healing, meditation, and spiritual consulting at the Clearsight program in Santa Monica, CA where she completed a graduate program.
She is an author with several books to her credit including "Message Sent" which chronicled her day-to-day journey toward healing, and "The Enlightened Mom", which chronicles the understanding and wisdom she developed through her studies and life experiences.
Through her website, www.TheEnlightenedMom.com, Utley hopes to unite moms from across the globe to take a stand to heal the world. “My intention is to inform, entertain, and enlighten moms all over that world that by loving and honoring who they are and how they were created, they set an example of unconditional love. It’s not what we do for our kids, but how we live our lives that impacts them the most!” View flyer on her seminars
