USA Scholarship Competition for African-American Girls is taking applications

RALEIGH, N.C.- Noire Productions Inc., a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status, is conducting its third Miss Teen Essence USA Scholarship Competition. This competition is open to African American girls ages 10 to 18 from any part of the U.S.

The Miss Teen Essence USA Scholarship Competition is not a beauty pageant, but is a development program for African American girls. The winner of the competition goes on to be the voice for African American females across the nation.

During the competition, youth attend informative seminars taught by industry leaders on proper etiquette, effective speaking, health and fitness, college/career choices, talent development, and many more.

Organizers said the competition is a great opportunity to meet other youth headed in a positive direction and to win scholarships and valuable prizes at the same time, as these youth discover new things about themselves and "unleash the queen within."

"We are looking forward to another exciting year," said competition founder Anthony O. Vann. "Ninety-three percent of our participants have went on to college and are now embarking on exciting careers traditionally not taken by African American females. I think that speaks volume for this program."

Vann is being hailed as the new African-American "Donald Trump" in the pageant world. Vann owns and operates the Jr. Miss Essence USA Pagenat, Miss Teen Essence USA Pageant system as well as the Miss Black NC USA pageant system, the official state preliminary for the Miss Black USA Scholarship pageant. He recently worked with other producers to produce the National Miss Black USA pageant in the Gambia, Africa.

Vann is also a Certified Miss America system judge, and EPIC International certified judge and director.

Registration is now open. The competition is scheduled to take place in Raleigh, N.C., Aug. 8 through Aug. 11. National recording artist, Jeff Murrell is one of the scheduled special guest for this year's event.
