Fleming was the last high school student to win the crown. She was a popular contestant who won both the preliminary swimsuit competition and talent competition, where she demonstrated her sewing creations (cape, overdress, apron, etc.) that could be mixed and matched to allow a girl to wear one dress for multiple activities throughout a busy day.
In the swimsuit competition, she was a swimsuit winner, wearing a stunning in a white one-piece swimsuit with a modesty panel.
