Wendy Fitzwilliam, Miss Trinidad and Tobago was crowned as Miss Universe 1988. This 25-year-old law student and model from Trinidad has obtained her law degree and is just steps away from admittance to the bar in her native Trinidad.
Fitzwilliam is as comfortable walking down a model’s runway as she is in a courtroom and is about to embark upon a yearlong schedule of career, personal, and philanthropic activities.

As part of the new, ‘redefined’ MISS UNIVERSE Organization, Wendy will travel the world from her new home base of Los Angeles as a representative of the organization, its sponsors and official charities, Wendy will work hand in hand with the MISS UNIVERSE
Organization to plan a meaningful year around her personal and professional goals – a year filled with activities that will help her advance both her law and modeling careers.
Wendy graduated from the University of the West Indies in 1996 with a Bachelor of Law Degree. Immediately after her reign as MISS UNIVERSE, Wendy plans to complete her final exams earning her Law School Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School. Following her reign as MISS UNIVERSE, Wendy will then pursue a career in the Foreign Services Department of the Trinidad government, traveling the world on her country’s behalf.
Of predominantly African descent, Wendy is the oldest of two born to Juditha and Noel Fitzwilliam. Juditha is a veteran high school teacher at a private school in Trinidad; Noel Is a retired Brigade Engineer in the Trinidad fire service. Wendy is especially close to her 24-year-old sister, Dionyse, who will become a full time analyst at Merrill Lynch in New York this summer. Wendy describes her sister as the only person alive she cannot live without.
As the second winner in MISS UNIVERSE Pageant, history to hail from Trinidad and Tobago, one of Wendy’s aspirations while she is MISS UNIVERSE is to share with the world a taste of her country’s rich culture and history. Her favorite Trinidadian art form, Batikng – an art of different designs using wax – Is one of the activities she most looks forward to sharing.
