MAOTeen Announces a New Instrumental Scholarship Sponsored By Glenn Harman

Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization is pleased to announce two new Instrumental Scholarships for $500 each. The scholarships are made possible due to the generosity of Dr. Glenn Harman.

The top two contestants from the talent preliminaries whose talent is an instrumental solo will be eligible for this scholarship. Dr. Glenn Harman began his relationship with our "big" sister, the Miss America Organization, and joined MAOTeen in 2006 as judge. Over the past few years, the hard-working, honest and ethical people who make MAOTeen possible caught the attention of Dr. Harman.

"I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of the young women who have been state and national titleholders in the system," said Dr. Harman. "It has been my great honor to have been able to stay involved in the program by supporting scholarships, and especially supporting appearances for titleholders." Dr. Harman is an accomplished musician. His major musical performances have always been instrumental with the piano as his first instrument. However, he is also very talented in the oboe, English horn and recorders.

While Dr. Harman has always found his experiences with MAO and MAOTeen to be nothing short of wonderful, he feels instrumental music talent has been under rewarded. With this all said, Dr. Harman wanted to create a scholarship to show his appreciation for the difficulty and the merit of an instrumental performance requires.

Since 2006, Dr. Harman has sponsored MAOTeen titleholders' appearances at events such as Relay for Life and Music is Good Medicine. He has found these experiences to be very positive and inspirational for all that are involved. Dr. Harman looks forward to staying involved for many years to come.

MAOTeen 2010 Jeanette Morelan First Titleholder to Perform in a Live Concert

MAOTeen 2010 Jeanette Morelan became the first titleholder to perform in front of an audience of 2,500 in a live concert. Jeanette performed in a joint recital with Dr. Glenn Harman at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The biggest fans in attendance were her grandfather and grandmother.

Jeanette's trip, sponsored by Dr. Harman, then took her to Mapleton where she was a speaker and performer for the Relay For Life event. It was very emotional and wonderful time for Jeanette as she spent time visiting with the cancer survivors and signing autographs. The event expected to raise $150,000.

On the the last day of the trip, Jeanette, Dr. Harman and Dianne Sarchet (traveling companion) drove to Austin and visited the Spam Museum. Both Jeanette and Dr. Glenn entered into a contest to see who could package the cans of spam the fastest...Jeanette won by only a few seconds.
