Deborah Bryant, Miss Kansas, won the 1966 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was crowned in Convention Hall by her predecessor, the popular Vonda Kay Van Dyke, Miss America 1965, of Arizona.
During the talent competition, she performed a Vaudville theatrical play on the theme of “Midas Moneybags” where she played all three characters with a three-part costume. She won the swimsuit competition wearing a sunny yellow swimsuit she had purchased in Atlantic City that week.
As her reign ended, she crowned her successor, Miss America 1967, Jane Jayroe, Miss Oklahoma.
Bryant went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa and become a TV commentator for Miss America Pageant broadcasts.
She married Phoenix auto dealer Brent Berge and has five children.
