Jane Anne Jayroe won the 1967 Miss America Pageant, as Miss Oklahoma. She bested a double preliminary winner, Charlene Diane Dallas, Miss California, who had won the swimsuit and talent preliminary competitions earlier that week. Jayroe was crowned by outgoing Miss America 1966, Deborah Bryant of Kansas.
After her reign, she crowned her successor, Miss America 1968, Deborah Dene Barnes, Miss Kansas.
Noted for conducting the pageant orchestra for her talent, Jane went on to earn a master’s degree, became a TV news anchor, and was named ‘Outstanding News Personality.’
She is married to Gerald Gamble, has one son, and is pursuing her PhD.
